Blue Iris Coffee Table
The base for this table was made from figured spalted maple. The curved legs and supports are laminated with 10 strips of book matched maple, each layer 3/64 inch think. What appear to be only four elements of wood are actually 60 individual pieces, glued so as to highlight grain and symmetry. To make this piece, three quarters of the original wood ended up as sawdust!
Coffee tables are centrepieces which can and should be something out
of the ordinary. They are a key décor element in a living room, make
a statement, and should be as much a work of art as they are
functional. As in all my work, I use either maple, black walnut,
Japanese walnut, black cherry, European cherry, or any wood the
customer desires. The tops might be wood, glass or a nice
piece of slate.
